Materials Research and Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy

From 1996 till 2005, I conducted my research work predominantly at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz (Germany) in the group of Prof. Hans Wolfgang Spiess.

My work was mainly concerned with the development of new solid-state NMR methods as well as NMR studies of structure and dynamics of supramolecular systems. It comprises:

  • Double-quantum MAS NMR spectroscopy of polycrystalline phosphates (diploma work, 1996) .
  • High-resolution 1H NMR spectroscopy in the solid-state: Very fast sample spinning and multiple-quantum coherences (PhD work, 1997-1999, see review article in 2001: [18] ).
  • MAS NMR of lipid bilayers (post-doc work at the Biochemistry Department of Oxford University, GB, 2000-2001).
  • Merging techniques from liquid-state and solid-state NMR for the investigation of supra- and biomolecular systems (Habilitation work, 2001-2004, see review articles in 2004 and 2005: [41] and [43]).
